Kinja'd!!!

Because it appears I will be joining many of you gents in the “post-hair” phase of life.

My wife thinks I’m overreacting, and my full hair did last a decade longer than my brother’s, but I admit I’m not talking it as well as I thought, knowing years ahead it was a distinct genetic possibility.

Now it’s matter of seeing if I get my dad’s hairline (bald spot in 30s, kept the rest full and no change in hairline), or my brother’s (... He’s as bald as they come). Hairline is holding strong for now. But who knows.

Better start shopping for a car that will be as shiny as the top of my head. I can turn any circumstance into a reason to buy a car, luckily.

If you really are committed to it, I think cortisone injections (by a dermatologist) should help regrow hair. But I’d ask one just to verify.

I don’t mean this as a criticism -- why do so many men care whether they go bald or not?

One thing I don’t like is there is no really acceptable hair style other than shaved, buzzed or maybe 1/2". I had hair to my shoulders when I was 18, not that I’d do that again but damn, I’m tired of only rocking the buzz, and I’m early 30s.

Same here. Glad I grew it out while I had the chance.

But I will admit that shaving it all off has some unexpected practical disadvantages... I hit my head more often now, since the hair made a pretty good proximity sensor. It also served as a cushion, so my head gets scratched easier. Perhaps the most unexpected thing is rain. My hair used to soak it up before it had a chance to start running down my face, but now it just flows freely if I don’t wear a hat or something.

Still 1000x better than a comb-over, though.

Yeah, if you have a decent amount of hair either up front or in back, you have some flexibility.

I’m nearing a horseshoe with little on top, so Im pretty limited I think. If you have longer when you start, you’re probably good to go but it’s tough to grow it out once it’s gone.

I came to the same realization after seeing a photo of the top of my head at my son’s birthday party when I was about 32-33 yrs old. I now firmly have a reverse yamika, like a perfectly formed 5" diameter bald spot on top of my head, and I don’t even give a shit. The doc told me to wear a hat if it’s sunny so I don’t get sun burn and then die of skin cancer.

It could be the lighting. I understand how if you might be going bald sucks, but it happens no shame in having thin hair or a chrome dome like people say. Don’t be like those dudes who have 20 strands of hair and part it to one side like normal people do when combing. I’m going grey slowly at 23, I really don’t care. It doesn’t bother me. Just be happy you have an awesome toyota collection and a super adorable doggo, and you’ll worry less about less dead keratin on your scalp.

I got my hair cut professionally for the first time in years about two months ago. The hairdresser told me very tactfully that my hair was “much thicker on the sides and back than on the top” I expect by the time I’m thirty I’ll be shiny on top too, just like half my family on both sides. My dad got lucky... I’ll be bald before he is.

In my family male pattern baldness skips a generation. My great grandpa was bald, my grandpa died at age 76 with a full head of hair, but my uncle is bald. So if this trend continues, I will never go bald but my kids will. I think I skipped the gene because my hair is so thick it’s actually fairly unmanageable.

I’m okay with how my hair looks, but baldness does affect other people’s perception . . . men with hair are assumed to be more successful/handsome/healthy and get conscious and subconscious beneficial treatment as a result. So it is annoying to have to overcome that. But there are much more pernicious and damaging biases in our society.

I started noticing my hair thinning a bit just before I finished college, so I was maybe 22. Im 28 now and still have most of it. The thinning hasn’t really progressed but my hairline has kind of receded at the “corners” of the front. I actually take finasteride, recommended by a dermatologist, which is generic propecia. It seems to have arrested any further loss. I’ll do what I can to prolong it until it becomes not feasible anymore.

Depending on your profession, a little early gray hair can actually be a big help--if you’re relatively young and in the sort of job where people are supposed to rely on your advice and professional judgment (doctor, lawyer, accountant, etc.) it helps a lot to not look like a teenager sitting at his dad’s desk.
